How To Celebrate Galentine's Day

How To Celebrate Galentine's Day

Galentine’s Day was introduced in 2010 on Parks and Rec by Leslie Knope. Ever since I saw that episode, I have embraced the holiday whole-heartedly. Galentine’s Day takes place on February 13th, and you celebrate by getting together with your best gals. It’s the ultimate girl day.

Below are some ideas to get you on your way to celebrating Galentine’s the Leslie Knope way.

Eat Breakfast Food

If you want to truly channel Leslie Knope, make waffles. But really any breakfast food will do. Remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn’t matter, but work is third.

Exchange Gifts with your Gals

Leslie may have gone a little overboard in this regard. We don’t all need to write 5,000 word essays for each other, but it’s nice to show your besties that you’re thinking of them. And vice-versa. If you need some ideas to get started, check out this pack of cards, this ovaries before brovaries keychain, or this book on female friendships.

Watch Some Girl-Power or Chick-Flick Movies

This kind of depends on what type of vibe you’re going for on your Galentine’s Day. It is perfectly acceptable to celebrate all types of love and romance on Galentine’s. Try one of the following movies (which happen to be some of my personal favorites):

Now and Then
Hidden Figures
Pitch Perfect
Practical Magic
Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Or any Audrey Hepburn movie)

The Possibilities Are Endless

Ultimately, as long as you spread some love to your besties, there’s no wrong way to celebrate Galentine’s Day. If you and your girls want to go to a spa, treat yo-self. If you want to do a photoshoot, get all dolled up to go nowhere. You want to follow along with a Bob Ross tutorial or play board games? You do what you and your gals do best.

Happy Galentine’s Day to all my lovely ladies out there!
